I let my software do it for me.

No matter how you run your rotation, you're going to have people who will bi*ch about it. Whether you put new singers at the bottom of the list or work them into the current rotation, you will never be able to make everyone happy.

So, with that said, find what works best for you and stay with it.

I use MTU Hoster, and have it setup to display 4 singers, and time they will perform, I tried letting the software manage my rotation but noticed that i'd have 4 songs qued, then load a new singer and it would muck up how I would normally handle my rotation (which is new singer end of current round and so on), so if I was in the process of last song in the rotation and just got the request, that person would go to the end as the people have seen their name on screen, i dont like the "bump down" to appear so thats it.

Now I just have gone back to managing my rotation myself, old fashioned pen and book, works just fine. I do use electronic songbook What Can I Sing, and take requests via either the App or from people asking for a song. Request slips gone mostly with covid out and about.

I could never go back to that. I use CompuHost... and while it does a great job of keeping the rotation, I still can override it and move people up, down or place new singers wherever I want them in the rotation. But, going back to the old fashioned way??!! Never gonna happen with me.

i use Siglos Karaoke Pro and let ti handle the rotation for me. i set it to show the next 5 singers and tell it to put new singers at least 6 singers ahead. this way it will never mess up what is showing on screen, but If i need to move it i just drag it to the new spot.

If I'm super flustered or have a bunch of folks too many to handle, maybe I'll put everyone in order alphabetically by first name.

Kick rocks if they don't like it, I'm trying to keep my sanity and have some sort of order. Of course someone be will always be upset....

I use compuhost to manage my rotation but have it set up similar to Paradigm, making the one off exception and moving singers as needed. I will tell you though, when we do Kid's Karaoke, we use Karafun since we can bring in the lead vocals at anytime to help the kids out if needed. Since Karafun doesn't have any sort of rotation management built in, we just use a paper rotation. It's not as bad as I expected it to be, I just use a lined notebook and start with names 4 lines apart, so I can add names in between in if needed. Of course, Kid's Karaoke is always myself, my wife and my daughter hosting at the same time. Kids or adults, I am not sure if I could manage the paper list and run a good show by myself.

I have a big white-board set up behind me where everyone can see it. Names are added when a singer I recognize walks in the door. Otherwise, they're added when they let me know they want to sing... Names always go to the end of the line. No bells & whistles. Simple works for me.

Hey Earl what happens if someone puts in a song and the current singer is the third last, or second last, or even the last singer of the rotation? Does the new singer get to sing right away?

Usually yes... and all my regulars know that. However, once in a while some smart-ass comes in five minutes before quitting time and expects to sing. Nope! Not gonna happen.

I really don't think there's any such thing as a perfect rotation... but my white board has served me well for close to 20 years... Complaints have been very rare, and my answer has been "Well, show me a better way."

Well if you do it the same way, at least the complaints will be consistent.
