If the mp4 is karaoke then it would. Karaoke mp4 is no different than any other. Some mp4s might be encoded differently and may need some additional codecs like any other program that plays mp4s (or video files in general)

When I tested it mp4 files wouldn't even be accepted in the karaoke database. Nothing on their website tells me that anything has changed in that regard.

Both DEX 3 and Virtual DJ will play the new HD MP4's. But, I wouldn't use either to run a karaoke show... just like I wouldn't use CompuHost to do a DJ set. It's better to use a dedicated program for a specific application. I use DEX for DJ music and CompuHost for karaoke.

Besides I hate having to deal with a lot of menus. OpenKJ I can deal with because of the fact that the only menus I have to deal with is the karaoke tab and break music tab. Once clicked I can access everything I need without dealing with a multitude of menus. Kinda of why I gave up on the Bose T1 ToneMatch mixer.

For those who do not not to use an all-in-one program for DJ'ing, these are from the survey GentlemanBronco referred to -

661

662

Please note the absence off any PCDJ products. The major leader in the industry is Serato, followed by a rapidly rising Rekordbox (Pioneer). I suspect the order may change next year - Rekordbox went to monthly software billing (like Adobe Photoshop) which DJ's don't like, Traktor finally will have "Smartlists", and VDJ introduced real-time Stems. Nonetheless, these are the "Top Four", and are in fact what you will find most "Professional" DJ's use. I suspect with the recent updates that Mixxx's percentage will also increase - besides being "free", it is excellent software.

They all have a slightly different work-flow and "feel", but what they share in common is Reliability and Library Management - probably the two most important factors for DJ's.

KJ'ing is different. IMHO, Most KJ's are better served by using a dedicated Hosting program separate from their DJ software, regardless of what has been profiligated here.

I belong to a couple of groups in Facebook and you wouldn't believe the number of new Virtualdj users who have changed to Virtualdj and DEX over Serato and Reckordbox. So the number of those users are dwindling.

Yes and no. Rekordbox 6 does have a monthly subscription option, but many Pioneer devices provide a hardware unlock that gets you access to Performance mode. There are certainly other features you may wish to add via the subscription, but the essential features are available for free. (https://rekordbox.com/en/support/faq/v6/)

Subscriptions suck but despite that it sure seems like a lot of people are moving to Rekordbox, like the chart says.

Rekordbox 5 is still in use and there are lots of serial numbers available. If you buy a Pioneer controller today it may include a v5 serial number, as well as providing hardware unlock on v6. So lots of new DJs use v6 and sell the v5 serial number.
