Post subject:  Best Karaoke programme for a musician?

Hi guys,
thanks for accepting me into the forum. I am a guitarist/vocalist looking to expand into Karaoke standards and also play along. Does anyone know of a programme which can be used, with a laptop, to allow me to take out different instruments rhythm/lead/bass etc so that I and my partner can fill in the gaps?
Many thanks for reading this.
Tim.

Welcome to the forum

None of the karaoke programs remove instruments.

Karaoke-Version - one of the suppliers of Karaoke songs also has a great selection of backing tracks where you build custom versions of the song by removing the instruments.

Some songs they have both Karaoke and Custom backing tracks that use the same music so you can use the graphics from their standard Karaoke with all the instruments and replace the music with your custom track.

Many of the custom tracks do not have graphics licensing so they only offer the backing tracks without the graphics.

Case in point Hotel California

They have the custom backing track available where you can remove individual instruments, lead vocals, backup vocals etc but they do not have a license for the graphics so they do not offer a karaoke version.

The only option to get a full karaoke version would be to purchase the desired backing track and add your own graphics with one of the cdg programs.

Here is a link to the custom download of Hotel California

I haven't been on their website for quite sometime now but Karaoke Version used to offer many of their recordings as custom multi-tracks whereby you could choose to leave out certain tracks out of the mix, etc. That aside, there really isn't any software that will allow you to remove individual tracks from a stereo mix. The downside to using the KV versions is that you'd probably need to purchase more than one version of the song. One version that you can play along with and another version for those times when you don't need or want to play along.

If you have some basic recording skills you could even make a "multiplex" recording of the two versions by creating separate mono tracks. One track with the version minus the guitar/bass tracks to let's say the left channel and a second track with the total mix to let's say the right channel and align them in an audio editor such as Audacity (free software) or Sound Forge, etc. so that they're in sync with each other. Now you'll be able to switch between the two versions in real time without a hitch.

Thank you dsm2000 and Bastiat
Eek, I thought there would be companies falling over themselves to offer
this service.
Will look into the KV custom multi track versions.
I don't really understand the graphics point, does it mean the Graphic equalizer
that would I would use to control what to take out?
Many thanks again,
Tim.

Graphics = lyrics displaying on screen ie karaoke.

What I don't understand is that there was a post that I was going to respond to but when I went back to read it again, the post was gone along with one of my posts. How does that happen?

I thought there was another one too.

Sometimes, the poster changes his mind.
If I see a duplicate post, one will be removed.

I didn't change my mind, nor was the post I was about to respond to the type of post that someone would "change their mind" about. These weren't duplicates either, so what gives?

Looks like several posts are missing... For the first time yesterday I was asked to log in with my user name and password... so something weird has happened with the chat board. We seem to be back to normal, but those posts are still missing.

Actually that has happened before and I've also noticed on several occasions where someone had embedded another poster's quote but the post itself was no where to be found. I don't suppose those kinds of errors could be caused on my end but I won't be calling in the Geek Squad to check my computer until I can bleachbit all the porn off my drive. :P

I. THINK IT WAS ONE OF MY POSTS THAT WAS DELETED.
Sometimes they don't like it when you say something positive about a karaoke company other than Sound Choice. I posted that the original poster's problem would be best addressed by using Karaoke Version custom tracks and I also poste something about Guitaroke tracks.

Actually now that I think of it KJKILLER ... it was one of your posts as well as a post from [timbo] and one of my posts. I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt that it's a software glitch or some other type of error, but if for some reason this was some form of censorship ... I'm out of here.

I definitely have a missing post here too. I explained for the original poster how to go about getting more than one customized version or mix of a track from KV, and how subsequent downloads don't cost extra.

And I'd posted in the "If I had A Bar" thread, and that's missing as well. Nothing controversial, so I doubt it's any kind of a censorship thing.

Also got challenged for my password coming in here tonight, and that never happens!

Ah! One more thing. Everything I read yesterday is still marked as "unread" right now. Like yesterday didn't even happen. It's as if all the forums got reloaded from a day old backup sometime this morning.
