It's amazing that I prefer to use my 12 year old AMD 32 bit 2 gig ram XP laptop (clean install with no updates). Why... because it never locks up, blue screens, freezes, shuts downs, lags, etc. Everything I own plays flawlessly. I also never connect it to the internet, and have 50% or more of the services disabled.

Where am I going with this..... it doesn't take much to run dj and kj programs. Try disabling some cpu and memory services (ctrl shift esc).

If every other program can play those files except Karma, then it would seem Karma is the common denominator, at least on my end. The cpu's never get out of 1st gear.

If other machines can play it (other than mine), I'm baffled.

I just installed Karma 2018.0.7 on a 10 year old Asus G1S-n-X1 lappie. Core II Duo 1.83gHz with 4gB mem, Samsung EVO840 SSD. No other software other than VLC Lan.

Does the exact same thing on this machine as it does my high powered ones.

Files work fine in VLC.

Perhaps, incompatibility with nVidia GPU's?

on a test machine having this problem, try this codec pack.
it has solved problems with Karma before, and if not, no harm done.

@ djdon, fyi, I have 2 HP Envy’s at home with the latest Karma version. Win7, 8mem and 2nd mobile rig, HP Envy, Win8.1, 16 mem.

Both laptops play all hd files including SBI with no problem. No lagging issues, graphics in-sync with the music. Straight up karma install, no 3rd party codec, no vlc lan.

Here's a video of my oldest machine using Karma, playing an SBI HD video. 30fps. It also won't play Party Tyme HD videos which are only 25fps but it will play KV videos which are 25 fps. No rhyme or reason.

There is no other software installed on this machine.

Even my most powerful machines won't play these files normally in Karma.

I know you're not going to believe it, but I updated my 2 laptops to Karma 2018. I was still running Karma 2014.9.1 until yesterday. My hesitance was because of all my singer history would have been , for the most part, lost.

I made a complete copy of the karma data folder and then installed Karma 2018. I also created a restore point named "prior to Karma 2018 install". I still run XP pro SP2 clean install and absolutely no windows updates of any kind. I never connect to the internet unless a program needs a license verified.

Since Latshaw doesn't support XP anymore I thought that maybe it would not run. Well, it runs perfectly..... except all of my singer history is gone from 2009 to 2013. No big deal since if they haven't sung a song since before 2014 they probably never will. Another thing missing is the number of times a song has been sung. Every song shows 1 time sung.

My WMV Pioneer files won't play, but no one ever asks for them anymore. The reports are about the only real change when going from 2014 to 2018. The improvements are not really worth the change for me so I might go back to 2014 and get all my data back.

So much for progress :|

Well . . . it is a big deal.
Singer History
Show History
Number of songs played History

Key word there is HISTORY.
You played the songs, the singers sang the songs, the audience heard the songs.

It's MY show history. If a CD breaks, a hard drive crashes, or singer moves to another state, it doesn't change the history for the shows I have run in the past.

In Bobland, if someone dies or moves to a new address, their entire existence is wiped off the planet.

Can you imagine a car dealership running Bob 2.0?

Manager: Jim, I'm going to have to let you go . . . You only sold 3 cars this quarter.
Jim: WTH . . . I sold over 190 cars this quarter.
Manager: Sorry, our Bob 2.0 software deletes the vehicles from the system once they leave the lot. The 3 you sold today only show up in the system because they haven't been picked up and driven off the lot yet.

DSM, Agreed! However, I live in a vacation/seasonal resident city and a lot of the singers that I haven't seen in 4 years have probably died or moved on. So for me me losing the history from 2009 to end of 2013 just cleaned up things.

Did I lose some good usable data, yes I did. The surest way to say that was to look at my history before and after the 2018 update. I am missing about 5 percent of my songs in my history file.

Like you, I don't understand the "why" he couldn't make it all show up, but he didn't. I am well backed up if I don't like the new, and can easily go back to the extremely tried and true 2014 version that has never given me any trouble.

It worked fine before he made the switch.
I would much rather get a file not found error and just reload a song from it's current location. 10-15 seconds and all is well.
Permanently deleting song/singer data is just plain stupid

He could easily separate song/singer history and current catalog into 2 tables to get the best of both worlds but he's too pigheaded to concede he screwed up.
