I got a bunch of songs from my brother. I have a hundred or so. Everything looks fine. each song on an SD Card has an mp3 track and a cdg track. Named like this..

10CC - Donna.cdg
10CC - Donna.mp3

When I place my disk in the Karaoke machine It reads the disk and shows two files like this

10CC - Donna.mp3
._10CC - Donna.mp3

All the files are numbered even the ._ ones so it messes the indexing up and if you try to play one of the ._ files it just skips to the next track.

I have experimented and it's only with his music. The hardware is OK. Using the same computer and card I can add other music (not from my brother) that is indexed by the karaoke machine correctly. If I play my brothers tracks on my computer via vlc video player words and music play as normal.

Anyone any idea what is wrong and why my Karaoke Machine is indexing two tracks not one and how I can fix it. Thanks

If you have the original discs, check there for names.
If not ask your brother for the discs.
They should have arrived with the files.

Agree, re-rip the tracks from the original discs, that way you know they are formatted properly to work with your system.

create a new folder on your local hard drive c:
name it karaoke
Copy all the files from a card to the karaoke folder on your computer.
Change your file explorer view to details
Sort by filename and all the _ underscore files will be at the top.
select all the _underscors files and delete them.

double click any cdg file and see if it opens with your karaoke player.
If you double click any mp3 it will open with whatever your default mp3 music player is instead of your karaoke player program.

Files with a . (dot) in front are invisible files. Technically they should not be showing. Sometime they show by are greyed out and cannot be selected. Look at the file size of the one with the dot and one without. Without will be nearly nothing.

If you have both, delete the one with the dot. It's not needed.
If you only have one with a dot, rerip, then delete the one with the dot.

Engineering 101 - Rule #1 ... isolate the variables. Assuming the hardware and app is working fine according to your account, then there are three possibilities.
1) The file name is corrupt
2) The file itself (content) is corrupt
3) The media is corrupt
Start with the easiest one first (Occam's Razor). Copy the file using a different file name. For example ... copy Donna.cdg to test.cdg and Donna.mp3 to test.mp3. If the song works then try renaming the test. cdg and test.mp3 back to the original file name.

If copying and renaming doesn't work, then either the file itself, or the media is corrupt. In either case your only remedy is to re-rip the files from a reliable source/disc.
