A lot of american idol winners were karaoke singers before their fame. |

Makes sense. Karaoke not only gives you the performance practice (stage time, stage time, stage time), but helps you understand how to engage an audience. Plus, you have to learn to do the songs straight through without audio augmentation, (imagine that). |

She made her way to Nashville where she handed out demos of her performing karaoke songs to record labels and was signed by Big Machine Records and became the youngest artist ever signed by Sony/ATV Music. Mindy McCready: hits “Ten Thousand Angels”, “Guys Do It All The Time”. As a teenager she would sing karaoke, favoring hits from the likes of Trisha Yearwood and Reba McEntire. She headed to Nashville, equipped with her karaoke tapes and was soon signed to a recording contract. McCready was found dead on her front porch from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the same place where David Wilson, her former boyfriend and the father of her younger son, had fatally shot himself. She was 37 years old. Mary J. Blige, Bronx, NY, when a recording of the 17-year-old Blige singing at a karaoke booth came to the attention of Uptown Records, the company put her under contract immediately. Arnel Pineda, from my hometown, Manila, Philippines, born and raised, is the front man of the legendary rock band Journey, a living proof that karaoke dreams can really come true. He started singing karaoke, then formed a rock band, discovered by Neal Schoen (lead guitarist Journey) when videos of him singing Journey songs went viral on YouTube. Almost famous David J. Archuleta's been singing karaoke and at 12 years old actually came to my show in Orange County, CA to practice his techniques for his upcoming finals, became the junior vocal champion on Star Search. Fast forward 5 years later, seventh season of American Idol finals, the battle between two David’s - Cook, the rocker and Archuleta, the crooner. Cook won. |

Karaoke night would be the end for many of the newer "famous" singers if the audience heard what they really sound like singing "live" without all the electronic help. |

Oh I bet! I am an inspiring rapper so Karaoke has played a great role in my confidence. I'm sure it helps singers as well. Famous ones too. |
