Hello, friends. This is my first post. The forum seems to have a lot of content for professionals who run their own karaoke show.

But I'm just a performer. Isn't it possible to just buy, for example, a couple of dozen backing tracks for my use as a performer?

The idea is to buy a backing track for, say, San Francisco or Old Cape Cod, load it onto a portable digital player (mine is a Tascam), and then play it back over a P.A. system and play the harmonica (or sing) over the backing track.

Won't that work? Can this forum help me? Which subform? I won't ever run my own karaoke show. Of course, I might some day, but that's not my purpose in joining or making this first ignorant post.

Thanks for any direction you can offer,

Chef

Any karaoke track can be used as a backing track. If it's a cdg (disc), the music only will play on any cd player. If it's a zip file, unzip and play only the mp3 file that comes with it.
Also often you can simply buy the instrumental like from Karaoke Version http://www.karaoke-version.com which will have a ton more options that the versions with graphics/video.

I introduced Karaoke-version background tracks to my friends band. there is a cool mixing area allowing to mute certain parts of the background track exaple: don't stop believing allows to keep the keyboard part, muting the drums, keeping a click track and so on.
