Post subject:  FCC and Wireless Mics
Since it is now illegal to use wireless mics that operate in the 700 MHz band (which is what most of us have been using, have you replaced them? Or, have you gone back to corded mics? Or have you done nothing at all?

I will be getting the new GTD Audio set that operates on the new 500 MHz band.

I had to give up on my 700 MHZ mics shortly after the ban because of excessive interference (noise). I went with 3 Shure PGX24 Beta58a's in the 500 range.

Unlicensed operations

Users of wireless microphones and similar devices may operate the equipment on an unlicensed basis, subject to certain restrictions that stipulate the device:

May not cause harmful interference.
Must not be operated at a power level in excess of 50 milliwatts.
Must be operated in a way that accepts any interference that may be received.

Most wireless microphones are designed to operate with 50 milliwatts or less

so check your power specs on your mics you still may be legal to use them.

I believe that I should be OK with my sets. I own 2 Sennheiser EW 135-G3 B Frequency (Frequency B:626 - 668 MHz).

I get leery when I see 'improved' products (nice metal bodies) go down in price. Let us know how they sound in comparison (provided you have the 622/733/787 mics).

I think you may be waiting a long time for any reviews to surface. Just buy them. I doubt the sound quality will be inferior to the previous models. I would guess that everything about the mics will probably be the same except for the metal bodies and the new 500 Mhz frequency range.

Good advice, Alan. Just want to know if their metal bodies are designed to have low handling noise & less vocal popping. Like Lon I am a bit leery when it comes to ‘new & improved’. I would expect positive reviews though, but…… I think I’ll wait for product comparison.

You probably won't find many reviews because this brand is not widely known or as popular as one of the big names like Shure. However, I was able to find one 5 star review on Amazon. Copied and Pasted:

I'm sure the reviewer meant to say "for" instead of "are".

Unfortunately I've heard that same statement with Nady mics (a couple people here SWORE by the, 1 even sent me a brand new set to show me how "good for the money" they really are. That really don't tell how crappy they really sound.

True. But the difference is that many of us own, use and have experience with GTD Audio mics. I doubt that the new mics would have degraded sound quality over the previous version.

As far as "new and improved" costing less. It happens all the time. You can now buy an HDTV that is a lot better and with more features for hundreds of dollars less than what it cost a couple of years ago.
