I'm pretty sure I may have brought this subject up before, and if so, please forgive me. I'm afraid I've still not learned how to use the forum search feature.

Last evening we managed to get through the rotation twice with about 8 or 9 minutes to spare before closing time. Whenever this happens, rather than begin a third rotation, I call everybody up on the floor... distribute five microphones... and have a group sing-along. Usually we do songs like "Bad Moon Rising", "The Weight", "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", or even Gospel songs like "I Saw The Light" etc.

Last night I had requests for "The Mickey Mouse Club Theme" and Roy Rogers "Happy Trails", and we finished off with The Spaniels "Goodnight Sweetheart"..

Most of my regular patrons really like the sing-alongs, and it's not uncommon to have 12 or 15 singers jockeying for microphone space whenever I make the call.

Admittedly, I've not attended that many other karaoke shows, and I don't know if this is common practice.. so my question is: how many of you do group sing-alongs to end the night (when time permits), and, if you do, what are some of the songs you use?

Earl, that is actually a great question and situation to have happen. I have done exactly what you have done with great success in the past. My singers actually loved it, a lot. This is just some of the songs I would choose for them.

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Queen - We Are the Champions/We Will Rock You
Garth Brooks - Friends in Low Places (when and if it hadn't been sang that night)
Manfred Mann- Do Wah Diddy
B-52's - Love Shack (again, when it's not been sang already)
Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive
Beatles - Yellow Submarine
Any TV show themes,, maybe a few of them, because they are short usually.

There are many others that I just can't remember at the moment. But I would choose songs that are upbeat, memorable, widely known,,,,, and yes,,,make it stick in their heads the rest of the night so they can't get to sleep ;)

I hope others on here can offer more songs to finish the night. It's honestly a good thing, because it gives everyone a chance at "one more song".

I used to host Karaoke on Halloween, NYE, and St. Patty's Day at this one place, and we always ended the night with American Pie. I'd have about 15 people (including the bartenders) gather around, and we would pass the mics around while singing it.

One show that I used to be a Regular at, the KJ would always end the night with invititing all of the singers up to the stage to join in on "Goodnight Sweetheart."

we close the same way at every venue
Red Peters, The Closing song and i play off of the lyrics at the beginning
"(it's that time again) it IS that time (we've gotta say goodnight) but just till tomorrow *or whatever day i'm back next*
(you know it's getting late) NOPE... it was late HOURS ago (tomorrow is another day) also known as today
if you are too inebriated, or too inebriated to know what inebriated means, give your keys to someone behind the bar and they will make sure you get home safe. or give your keys to someone on the front side of the bar and take your chances, who knows, it could be fun, you never know until you try (in sarcastic mom voice)
i want to see you all *next show day* goodnight

and the bar sings the rest of the closing song to each other telling themselves to get the f@&k out.

I always sing Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA and it's a big hit.I ask everyone up and those that don'f come up usually stand up and it works out really well. I feel most folks want to be patriotic about there country and what better way than have them sing about it.

I've tried other as some have mentioned, but this one has stuck for a while

I've also done the group ending thing with a Beatles song called "All You Need Is Love".

I play different songs at closing with the fun of audience participation:

Andrew Gold – Thank You For Being A Friend
Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline
Journey - Don’t Stop Believing
Marvin Gaye - Let’s Get it On
Van Halen - Happy Trails

(depending on the crowd mood)
Luke Bryan - Time To Take My Drunk A** Home

I've ended every show for 13+ years with "It's Tricky" by Run DMC followed by "Let's Get it On" by Marvin Gaye. The songs, not karaoke.

If you can't leave happy after those two, there's something wrong with you.

I've definitely done this. "We Are the World" is a popular one at my one spot, as is "Jungle Love" (Morris Day & The Time). The joint I tend to do this sort of thing at is (vaguely) '80s themed, so that's the go-to decade for this sorta thing... around December we'll close a few shows with an all-remaining-singers rendition of "Do They Know it's Christmas?" Another gig of mine tends to peter out early (lots of professional folks that don't want to stay out late mid-week) and my small handful of holdouts likes to form a boy band for a Backstreet Boys or Boyz II Men song to end the night with.

I think it's fun to do stuff like that. These people spend so much time jockeying for position in the rotation and trying to outdo one another that it's cool to get them working together for a song.
