I've never used one but have been contemplating doing so. It would be placed on the floor by the singers screen. But I do have some worries. Since we deal with drunks, I worry about people spilling drinks on it or tripping over it, etc.
It's not that I really need it, and no one has ever complained about not being able to hear themselves. I just think it might me nice but don't know if it would be worth it for the reasons I stated above.

Never had a drink spilled into mine, but then we don't allow drinks on stage either.

If you are not getting any complaints then I wouldn't worry about it, "if it ain't broke don't fix it". It's just another piece of equipment you have to worry about. If you have drunks that can't walk properly then there are other issues at that venue, mainly about serving patrons that are already staggering. That, however has to do with the bartender or tenders as the case maybe, also a problem for the venue manager.

I don't know how our show would ever survive without a singer's monitor.. We currently use a powered JBL Eon 10", and place it directly below the video monitor. Our singers love it, and we've never had a problem with spilled drinks or tripping.

I use a powered QSC kw12 as my floor monitor, placed below the tv monitor. Imo, it allows singers to hear themselves better, and at the same time hear what they’re projecting to the audience. Never had a problem with spilled drinks. Strict rule: Drinks are not allowed in the stage area, period! “I’m terribly sorry” is not an accepted form of payment at my karaoke gear store.

I use a Behringer F1220D monitor. It's small, but quite powerful.
