8) Picture reminds me of the Elvis impersonators that used to come to my shows in costume to try and pass their business cards. Very few sounded or even looked like Elvis. Then they got mad at me because I didn't make them sound like Elvis, sort of like the women that wanted to have the Farrah Faucet hair style when their hair didn't cut it. Sorry only one Farrah and one King.

Question:

A singer puts in a slip for her friend who really doesn't want to sing. This person gets up and the friend comes up too. The person who doesn't want to sing just stands there frustrated while the friend takes over. Finally, this person walks off stage while the friend stays up and finishes the song.

Would you:

Allow the friend to get away with her game and stay up and finish the song?

Or

Cut the song the minute that person walked off stage? After all, that song was for the person that walked off, NOT the friend.

How about splitting the difference diplomatically, with a tasteful studio fade, starting the minute the 'real' singer walks off stage?

Yes, it would go without saying that the song would be faded out.

I only had a couple of instances where someone put someone else in as a prank. Both times it was something like dancing queen and both times it was a party of people I would most likely never see again. Both times I called the person on the slip and we were both surprised that they didn't really didn't want to sing it. I would go over to the table and make quite the show out of the situation, then I would tell the person that put the slip in that they had to sing the song. One of those times both got up and did it together which was hilarious. I can't remember on the second but I think neither ended up doing it and I moved on.

I had a group that used to come in and each person would put in a song. Then when called, the entire group got up to sing. They fooled me once and I let it go. The next time I called one of their songs per rotation. Someone from the group had the balls to come up and ask when so-in-so would be singing. I simply said the group can sing once a rotation like everyone else. That was the last time I saw that group. In hind site, I probably could have handled it better but that didn't matter at the time.
