Normally I am pretty good at Google but I feel lost looking at karaoke stuff and want to surprise her.

I am thinking of the Behringer MIX800 Compact Karaoke Processor with Voice Canceller and Echo/Reverb Effects, and then a pair of mics.

I don't want something with a built-in speaker or screen as it'll always be used with the TV system.

She was talking about some app or service for the songs instead of a preloaded system. But I think she still wants that accuracy percentage at the end of the song?

Am I headed in the right direction even?
Are cds better? Is it possible to not just have some crappy colored screen showing all the time?

Trying to keep it under 200, but that's a soft budget. And then the streaming service or whatever I'm sure costs a subscription and that's fine.

Using tv speakers for karaoke is bad. I'll let others go into detail.
$200 is a VERY soft budget btw.

I have a 7.1 onkio audio set up. So that should be fine.

Do not send vocals out to your Onkyo surround system. Those speakers are specifically designed for compressed audio, not dynamic vocals. You *will* blow one or more relatively quickly.

For home use, get a couple of small dynamic PA's. You may even be able to get away with a single PA depending on the size and layout of the space.

I have the VocoPro DVG888K II paired with the VocoPro PV802 powered speakers...I can't remember how long I have had them, but they have never given me a problem. (Yes....I like my VocoPro equipment)

Unfortunately anything that is 'made for karaoke' is usually pretty much junk, this particular fits into that category.

Like said, going through the tv is bad idea, for one thing I have never met one home user (of any age) that didn't want to turn the system up a little - the speakers in the tv are too small for any kind of reasonable playback of both music and live vocals. That being said a home stereo/theater system is equally not recommended as the speakers are typically not designed for any kind of live music (which live vocals will create pops, and spikes that home speakers aren't designed to handle). A separate pa dedicated to karaoke is always the preferred recommendation. Something like

If you have a laptop all you need to do is download the Karafun app, the actual player is free and will use any discs or files you might already have, or you can subscribe to the streaming service (obviously a wifi is required) which gives you around 25,000 songs (high quality - same ones most pro kj's use) for I believe $9.95 per month for the home service.

Actual karaoke cdg's are getting harder to find plus you usually end up only wanting 1 or 2 songs on the disc and never using or wanting anything else on the disc. Streaming you can pick and choose, or you can download and keep the songs (streaming you do not actually keep anything). Sites like

are good starts to purchase songs to use.

Like said the $200 is a very soft budget, up it a couple hundred for a small little dedicated system.

But for the few that like VocoPro, the masses hate them. Overpriced, underfeatured.

I along with many of the singers at my show absolutely love the Vocopro wireless mics.

A nice inexpensive gift would be the DBX GoRack $28.00 on amazon.

Just fyi the GoRack recommended is really not recommended for your needs.

I'll have to look at the specs for my speakers, paradigm, for their cost I'd hope they would work. They play 'live' recordings at deafening levels.

VocoPro seems the most reasonable price for features that I can get in Canada. But I am open to other cost effective solutions.

can it? perhaps, but after a dozen miles.....
not a quality issue, but a deigned for issue.
live recordings are still finalized and compressed to high levels, but using a live mic that kind of compression is not available unless you go to a much more expensive system than you will ever get use out of at home. PA speakers like Lonman suggested are designed specifically for live vocals and will not blow.

The speakers he listed are 600$, way more than I'd ever consider spending on speakers.

the setup he suggested is only $300 for the whole thing, speakers, mixer and mic.
the speakers you pointed to are passive, meaning they need another amp (your theater amp will not work for the same reasons the speakers will not work) and not close to what the Gemini will do.
the suggestion is not anywhere near what we would use for shows, but for home use is a vast improvement over the Acoustic Audio (whom i have never heard of) and will not damage your nice theater system.
theaters do what they do, PA's do what they do, and never the twain shall meet.
i hope this doesn't all come across as aggressive, it's not meant to be. We here have all seen countless people destroy their home theater systems (and with as nice as Paradigm speakers are, we have seen much more expensive systems destroyed in living room karaoke) so it is trying to stop more damage.

It's super expensive here. Cheaper to buy from the states, but with exchange and shipping it's still 500$+

odds are something that cheap is not just inexpensive, but CHEAP and MAY work KINDA.
but it depends on exactly what it is.
"will one of those small $3 circuit breakers work in my house?"

yes

HDMI out of your laptop to the TV. the software is designed to use a second like this, whichever software you use. it's usually very simple.
