But it does beg the question - How does a venue search for "legitimate" hosts who are not certified? Where is the web page that lists "legitimate" hosts?

-Chris

Around here KJs just go into the bars and pitch themselves. See things are still simple around here.
Yes... and that includes both Legitimate KJs and those who are working with a Not So Legitimate Library (this time, I am using the term Not So Legitimate to mean PIRATES). Smoothedge69, while this may not be relevant to you, let me ask you this... Do you think those Not So Legitimate KJs are going to admit to that when trying to solicit their services to a Venue? Please don't tell me these people don't exist in your small quaint little neck of the woods.

"In areas where venues are aware of what is going on, it may also benefit you to be certified if the venues are looking only for certified or legitimate hosts."

I guess some people confused the OR with an AND. In this sentence certified and legitimate are mutually exclusive. Also confusing will for may.

I don't know if they do or they don't. Those that I deal with have been around for years, and all run off discs. I am one of the only ones that runs off computer, for the most part. All I know is that I am making a nice little niche for myself, and the rest have been around and locked in for years. We don't have the turn over you people all seem to have, nor the glut of KJ's you people seem to have. Maybe it is just that we are all so good, nobody else can get their foot in the doors of our venues.

Specifically -

I drove out with one of my hosts yesterday and we secured a spot for this Saturday night. If we can blow them away, we may be able to pick this venue up as a 7 night a week gig. This location is known for karaoke and has been running karaoke there about as long as anyone else in the area. I already have two hosts available to work it if we get the thumbs up!

That is what I want. I would love to get one place to play 3 or four nights a week.

Update:

signed up for the free audit, and still no word from sound choice.

I even called to make sure the received the information they needed and they said they got it and told me to wait for them to call to setup a date for the audit.

but here it is December 3rd and not even an email confirmation.

It looks like signing up for your free audit is going as good as signing up for Obamacare.

When I heard the story about those signing up and then finding out they fell through the cracks in the program and really didn't have coverage and the Gov. told them to call the providers and make sure they got coverage I had to stop what I was doing because I was laughing so hard.

Sign up for an audit, sign up for Obamacare, and see which one you get first.

posted on the forum yesterday and got an email from them that evening.
with the final paper work, which I faxed back this afternoon.

and they said as soon as they receive the audit form back they would
be mailing me an audit kit and would call to setup the date to do the audit.

I think maybe chris had something to do with this.

thanks

I did email Kurt and Bryan at Sound Choice. I totally forgot to post back here that I did. Glad they got back to you so quickly.

Kudos to you Chris for doing that and making it happen, but sad that it takes someone on the "inside" (in this particular situation you really are) to get a response.

Update:

last night checked my email and had a confirmation email from ups tracking from charlotte NC.

first thought was I didn't order anything! then I remembered that sound choice is in NC.

so my audit kit is on the way.....

chris - should I pay the extra and get the sound choice banner? would it benefit me?

I have the Sound Choice Banner, but I have never used it. Totally forgot about it until you posted this. I may have to dig it out now. :)

So I guess you could truthfully say that it didn't help you get any of your gigs :D

As most of you know, I am disc based. I am now listed in their site as a Certified KJ, and I didn't have to do much of anything for their audit of my library in order to get listed there.

First and foremost, Cue, I'm glad that you finally got what you wanted. Congrats.

Second, as an OMD host- and as such would be considered similar to you- I would be interested in the process that you went through. The others who have been certified are PC hosts, and I figure their process would be different.

Thank you.

PS: Thank you to Chris for originally speaking to SC to set any of this up (and opening the door for me to ask SC for the same consideration as a DB KJ).

I will PM you.

From the sounds of it, you would be correct. Check out mightwiz's post:

I wasn't sent any aforementioned kit, and I wasn't asked to mark any of my discs.

Cue,

Any particular reason you aren't willing or able to share exactly how you got through the audit here?

Very curious how many other people took advantage of this offer.

Unfortunately, I only saw this thread today as I don't frequent this forum all the time. I have over 450 SC discs, and for free, I'd do the audit, especially if I get listed on SC's site (FWIW).

Free is the best price, ya know?
