Post subject:  YOUR FIRST TIME SINGING AT A KARAOKE BAR
ok mine went like this....
the bar was filled with smoke as most bars are...i walk in sit down at the bar order a drink, i noticed a very pretty blonde with long legs sitting next to me.... i said....ok thats a different story...lolllll...

My first time wasn't to long ago really...i work on the road alot and we were working day shift so we had out nights free, my friend who is just dieing to get up to sing ....( but to afraid ) wanted me to get up...welll i had sang in a band for a long time so i said what the heck....they filled out this card for me which i knew nothing about, then brought it up, what i noticed was they had like 5 singers taking turns singing butttt each one would sing 2 songs each...none of these singers were very good at all...i mean baddddd... and 2 songs each just seemed like the host was torturing us for fun.... truth is i had rather listen then sing at these things... more interesting and fun...but atleast throw in 1 good singer sometimes...the kj was a veryyyyy good singer but only sang 1 song all night...it got to the point to where the singers were singing 3 songs each before to long....lord what a long night...lol...all this was very new to me....singing to tracks...but it did look like fun...so my turn came up to sing...i went up did my thang people clapped, it was fun...did i also say they had no monitors?...lol... the sound stytem really sucked, i never got back up that night... i really love to sing but i really would like to sound half way good if i am going to sing...not alot to ask i don't think....sense then i have sang at maybe 3 more clubs... ones P A was awesome and they were packed, great singers there also...i had a blast listening...still do, that why i love listening on here so much...great talent on here....

I remember my first time..........in public karaoke (I had a machine at home that I would just wail quietly to before I got some confidence).

Me and my two friends went out to a bar that we had never gone to before, and it had a few English songs, and some songs in Japaneese. So, I got up there and sang La Isla Bonita by Madonna, and rocked it (Pretty easy song). But it was my first time ever singing in public. My friends said that I did a great job and was a good singer, and ever since then I have been hooked and go as much as I can :)

Well, this is a very interesting topic for me. I never opened my mouth until about 3 years old. Everyone around me seemed to be involved with music all my life. My husband(who I love very much), my brothers(who are unbelievable and I am so proud of them), and others in my family. My mother is very ill and one day I surprised my husband by asking if he would record a song for me to send to my mom. No matter what it would sound like, she would like it. Thats my mom! She lives in Texas and I don't get to see her as often as I would like to. So I thought this would be something I could do that she might enjoy from one of her daughters. Well I got the nerve up enough to do this one song. Called " Kiss me". Mind you my husband in 20 something years has never really heard me sing. So he went on to record a CD of me entitled "Here's Some Love". This was sent to all my brothers and sister (7) and mom at the same time(on the suggestion of my husband). It arrived on the same day. They did not know any of the songs were me. They all cried and were touched when I dedicated the CD to all my family and wrote a peom/story of our life growing up. We had many struggles, ups and downs but never lost our love for each other. They were all shocked :shock: and then the tears really started to fall. (I hope not for my sing!-lol) when they discovered all the songs were sung by me. Since then I have sang at weddings, hosted/recorded/organized a party for the "Chicago" theme and have done some karaoke. etc. I have tried to educate my self on all aspects of vocal training. I get very nervous and sometimes my vocal cords close up now and again. Now that I have spilled my guts, I hope I haven't bored you too much! That's my story! I love listening to others here and I hope that I have not offended anyone at anytime during the course of my comments, etc. :oops: I truly appreciate anyone who has the nerve to sing in public or in their shower. Don't wait to try it like I did. You will not regret it! Love Dona :)

lolllllll@ never opened my mouth....wow that was a great story dona, i loved it.....i have a large family to...most sing...not that well but they sing.....i was always sooooooo scared to sing in front of people...one night i was hmmmmmm 17 and in a bar , my bro's band was playing and there singer was hmmmmm singing...i had a few drink by then and said ok i can sing as good as he can....amazing what beer will get you to do and think sometimes huh...lol....so i got up and sang,,,been singing ever sense...i have always known there were people better then i am and some not quite as good.....but why do all the better ones have to live in my town?....lol....


and to hear you sing dona you could never tell u had just started singing...i love ur voice

A boring story...
i just walked in watched a few singers do it.. looked in a book.. found a song.. wrote it down.. called up and sang my first song infront of 8 others.

it all started from there 8)

My friend asked me to go with her about 6 years ago and I never thought I would sing. She offered to sing with me and we did "Blame It On Your Heart" Patty Lovlace and istill cn't get enough. A huge ugly monster was created.

Okay, boring story here.

I got my first karaoke machine in 1990 (the kind that only took tapes) and only sang at home with family members. There were not alot of places then that hosted karaoke. (if any?!?!?)

Then, my husbands job had a christmas dinner in 1992 at a restaurant that had karaoke in the bar. So......... after dinner us and a bunch of drunk truck drivers went in to the bar. I was dying to try it, but I was very, very shy about it. (Yes, I WAS) It's different on here, you all can't SEE me.

After listening to the drunk truck drivers sing for a while, I got brave enough. The only song they had that I knew well was "Blue Kentucky Girl" by Emmy Lou Harris, so that's what I did.

Of course, being the only sober person in the place, I was pretty much the only one who sang on key- so I was complimented by all our friends, who asked me to sing more.

AND LIFE HAS NEVER BEEN THE SAME SINCE!!!!

A little taste of applause was all it took.

That's my story- - - - and I'm stickin' to it.

I'm a...well...It's embarrasing to admit, but I'm a Karaoke virgin :oops: I have never sang in public. I just found this PCkaraoke software on the web one day and downloaded a free trial version just to play with. I purchased and downloaded a few songs and recorded them with the software. Then I found this website and uploaded a few of them just for fun. I don't think that I could actually sing in public! It's easy to do from the anonymity and privacy of your own computer room.

I got SOooooo nervous as the place was very popular. The KJ was really kewl, and quite a little tart. When I nervously handed her my song slip, I told her this was my first time doing this. She had a wicked grin on her face as she took my song slip and said with a leer...

"Yes, but is this your first time singing karaoke??"" :P :P

It worked! I laughed my butt off, relaxed enough to go sit down and get nervous all over again by the time my song was up. I just stood there, my back to the crowd, starin at a big screen, with a wonderful version of Elton John's "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues"...

Then I turned into a slut and put in "Candle In The Wind"...

I was hooked from then on, baybe!!

A lot of my friends used to sing Karaoke at one of the places we haunted. I had never been to that Karaoke show (or any other one) because of a conflict. It was on a night that my bowling league played and in the summer I played golf on that same evening.

When I retired I quit the bowling league and the golf because they were both Company Leagues and I wanted to completely retire........ Enter Karaoke.

I went to the Cllub where everyone else went on that night. After several nights, I got up enough courage to do a song. I didn't have a clue (believe it or not) that the words were on that monitor in the front. The bartender (also a friend) assured me that they were, but I didn't know how they looked or were formatted. I picked "April Love" since I had been singing it to myself since I saw the movie "State Fair" some thirty years before. I heard the applause when I finished and after that .......

Richard’s first karaoke song was at a birthday party thrown for him by his co-workers. The birthday party was at The Store Club and the hosts of the karaoke were a married couple named Keith & Lisa.

Keith & Lisa ran a fantastic show, both are great singers and made all of us welcome and kept us laughing… Richard looked through the book and found a song (I believe it was George Strait). It didn’t take any prompting & there he was!!! Singing away with a beautiful low voice and right in tune!! After all those years together I had no idea he could sing!!! Anyway…. We all became fast friends and Richard & I starting hosting for the same man that Keith & Lisa hosted for.

After Richard’s night of singing we purchased a small CDG/Cassette player that Richard hooked into our stereo system & starting buying our own CDGs & at first I wouldn’t sing in front of Richard & the kids, I only sang when I was alone. The first time I sang at a club which was at a show hosted by a friend. We were with another couple who are both great singers and I got up to sing “It’s Too Late” by Carol King on my precious RCA disc!!!! I was shaking like a leaf!! When I got back to the table my hands were quivering. As I picked up my glass of water our friend teased me, warning me not to spill my drink! It’s amazing how far I’ve come…. My opinion today is 1) If you don’t like what I sing 2) or how I sing, go to the bathroom, I’m done in 3 minutes!!

We eventually purchased the necessary equipment/discs to operate our own shows & a little over 7 years later we now have a retail karaoke store and hate to miss our Saturday night show at The Store Club! As hosts we never pressure anyone to sing as we both know how I felt when someone tried to pressure me and & I wasn’t “ready”.

I went with family to a chinese restaurant to celebrate someone's birthday. It was the first time I had seen karaoke outside of asia. (going back a few years now). Our table got handed a book, which we looked through, and I told my brother in law that if he could sing a straight version of "you are my sunshine" I would have a go at the harmony. Well, we got through it ok and got some applause. Never went back but always kept it in the back of my mind. It's only in the last year I have gotten involved again, to the point of having some tuition, which is the best thing I ever did. (being taught to sing by an angel! - now there's a theme for you songwriters... )

My first time was in September 2002. I was never a club or bar person after I stopped playing in bands in the early 90's. A neighbor came over and told me about his uncle who could sing, and hey don't I sing too? I said yes I try, and they ended up taking me to a Ramada Inn. I sang an Elvis tune, and an original song called 'Amanda.' Next thing I know there is a girl sitting at our table named Amanda. I was a wee bit schnockered, and didn't notice my 'friends' had left, leaving me 20 miles from my house with no ride. Thank goodness I had a 'fan' who was nice enough to take me home!

My better half, who passed away in 2003, was a country boy from the flatlands of Georgia. When you're raised in the country (as I was, too) you either play an instrument, sing or appreciate music. My John did all three. Me? Unfortunately, just the last....but I do it VERY well! One night about 8 years ago he took me to the local bar at the bowling alley 'cause he'd heard they had karaoke and wanted to give it a try. We went in, had a drink, got the "lay of the land" and John filled out a couple of slips and turned them in. Several good singers sang their tunes and then the KJ announced the next singer. I was surprised that someone there had the same name as me. Uh...make that no one had the same name...it WAS me!! I was shocked....scared....but mostly MAD! How could he do that to me?!?! Well, after much conjoling on everyone's part (the folks at the bar were very supportive of new folks) I trembled all the way to the stage. I refused to get up on stage, preferring to sit on the edge of it. I made John sit next to me and "help" me sing. I never knew Delta Dawn repeated itself so much until that night! And I haven't sung it since! The next day, John ordered a karaoke machine just like the one the KJ used, bought a bluegrass disk and some old country disks and told me to practice....as I WAS gonna sing again! The nerve of that man! Been singing ever since. Introduced all our friends to karaoke....they all bought quality systems for home use and now we all can karaoke anywhere. Don't have much time to go to public karaoke but we sing at home as much as we can.

I surely do miss my John..... :cry:
