WELCOME NEWBIE!

At least once or twice a month, someone posts a generic question asking: “What is the best Karaoke software”?

The answer is always the same. It depends! Everyone has a favorite and everyone’s needs are different. Just like going to an Automotive forum and asking “What is the best motor oil for my car?” or a Wine forum asking "What is the best Cabernet?" you are always going to get the same flurry of responses pointing in no particular direction.

The following list is intended to give YOU a head start on finding the best program for YOU. All of them will play Karaoke files. Some have more bells & whistles than others and most have a free demo version.

YOUR JOB is to download and try them out! Then you can come back and ask more specific and better informed questions.

Get to work! :P You can discuss the various softwares here viewtopic.php?f=1&t=27842

Listed in Alphabetical Order - (See last edited date at the bottom of the post)

IF YOU HAVE UPDATED INFORMATION,PLEASE SEND ME A PRIVATE MESSAGE FOR INCLUSION.
If you simply reply to the thread, it will get lost in the noise and most likely be missed.

You have Karafun listed as home use only. That isn't altogether correct. It's only for home use if you use THEIR music. If you supply the music you ARE allowed to use it in public. It's in their ToS.

Fixed...but nearly three months late. Just saw it.

I just got this new system from All Star http://www.karaokewh.com/item/36543/the-karaoke-kiosk-family-fun-karaoke-bundle/... Complete Touchscreen system with Esongbook. But I don't think they sell the software only...

Bazza,

Just a reminder that all the links to Latshaw Systems should be updated to Karaosoft.com. I also noticed the current links aren't consistent. The link for Karma goes to the main home page, the link for Song List Generator goes to the specific page, and the link for KJ File Manager is a direct link to the download itself.

Two ideas would be to either have them all go to the products listing page at
http://www.karaosoft.com/Products.aspx
Where users can see info, download links, and license purchases for all products from one page.

or have each go to their respective page

Karma
http://www.karaosoft.com/ProductDetails_Karma.aspx

KJ File Manager
http://www.karaosoft.com/ProductDetails ... nager.aspx

Request Slip Generator
http://www.karaosoft.com/ProductDetails ... rator.aspx

Song List Generator
http://www.karaosoft.com/ProductDetails ... rator.aspx

File Synchronizer
http://www.karaosoft.com/ProductDetails ... nizer.aspx

You'll notice I added Request Slip Generator and File Synchronizer, both great tools for KJs, but you'd probably have to add new categories.

Just a thought.

Anyhow, keep up the good work. I found this thread EXTREMELY useful when I first came here, and I hope you keep it going. I've seen posts in other places that refer to this thread, so it definitely has a following.

I have compuhost. It is really nice set up. Easy to use and keeps track of a bunch of info. Like singer rotation, last time they sang (which is nice when you have that drunk saying you passed me up). History of songs performers sang in past. It's a nice set up.

Well guys I suppose it's what you want to do with it. To purchase software to play karaoke is ridiculous because Winamp, the MEXP add on, and the Pacemaker are all free from the Winamp website. This is a fantastic combination that I have used, and many of my KJ friends still use, for years at gigs. It's free and it works, always. If you have other ideas in mind, like myself, your best bet will be Virtual DJ. It is the best, and best supported, software available if you want to expand to DJ, VJ, and KJ. It cost $299. I use it on a laptop, it will do anything you can imagine, and it will make you look good!! :D

Neither track rotation, singer history or easily and automatically play bumper music, nor do they have a scroll to tell the guests who's up next, or what the drink specials are. There's lots of plus's to paid karaoke software.

I agree that, for free, Winamp does a great job. I used it for years before I switched to KARMA, $99. To get the 2nd screen to work in Virtual dj, you need to purchase the pro version for sure. The free version will not play videos or karaoke on a 2nd screen. I use VDJ or music videos and KARMA for karaoke simultaneously, every night I do karaoke.

Winamp is only good for those who do not need nor want all the benefits of a good pro karaoke software but just a very basic karaoke player.

As you all surely know by now, Winamp & SHOUTcast have recently changed ownership.

The winamp.com website is currently undergoing heavy work and an almost-completely new redesign.
As a result, many features will be unavailable, including some in-client services.

The Winamp downloads will also be temporarily unavailable whilst code licensed to/by the previous owner is removed/replaced.

We hope to have everything restored and back in working order as soon as possible,
and we apologize for any inconvenience caused in the meantime.

Watch this thread for any further updates.

From the winamp site. This dose not sound too good!

I now use Winamp as my main media management software (mp3, mp4, m4a, mp3g). It has a lot of great features including auto tag, playlists, filters, customizable views...

It's still installed and library maintained on my DJ/KJ computers as a backup in the unlikely event other software fails.

Analogy time!

Some people just want a car to get them from Point A to Point B. Any old beater will do. It's just transportation so get the cheapest one, preferably free.

Some people appreciate the comforts and accessorizes that a luxury vehicle brings. They spend a lot of time in their car & want to make it an enjoyable experience as well as have the reliability that precision brings.

Karaoke software is the same. Some people just want FREE and no frills. Others want the bells, whistles and professionalism to enhance their game.

To each his own.

Do you know of one that will play dj tunes and karaoke. I use sax and dotties and iTunes. ITunes freezes up on me. I just want a basic player that I can fade in and out of songs. about 100 bucks or less

Most of the software above, with the exception of sax & dotty's, will play filler music- some better than others.

If you need it more for dj but have karaoke ability, OTS DJ Pro is excellent (spendy but one of the best I've used as far as DJ programs). It sounds excellent, will take your dj music & adjust the start/stop points and BPM automatically for very smooth and profession sounding transitions between songs.
