Hello All,

I did some karaoke recently at a local dive ( Effie's in Campbell, CA if
you must know ) but the versions of the karaoke songs I did were
seriously messed up. See below :

Man on the Moon by REM - great song, haunting melody, indecipherable
lyrics. However, the lyrics display on the monitor were totally out
of sync with the instrumental track ( ! ) The song got mangled but I
did my best. I noticed on the DJ's computer screen there were, like,
15 versions of this song. Obviously I got the wrong one.
Question : anyone know of a singable version of this song with music\
and lyrics in sync ?
then,
Jackson by Johnny Cash and June Carter - in this case the instrumental
was jumbled with the refrains starting before the ending of the verses.
It would be nice to know a good version of this song as well.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers,

Tony in San Jose

I do that one, and like SoundChoice. This is one of the songs I put on a custom disk back when you still could.

Sound Choice for both those songs.
Actually sounds like the host had crappy rips of the music.

While I don't know anything about "Man On The Moon", but DK Karaoke did produce a different version of "Jackson" in their original 0-99 series (not on Millennium) by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood; a bit more up-tempo. Some people have requested this one thinking it was the Cash/Carter version. That could have been the one the KJ put on for you.

Personally, when it comes to Country (old or new) I prefer Chartbuster; anything else, Sound Choice.

Hey, thanks a lot. It's so embarrassing to bomb in the middle
of a song. I've learned a lot here about which studios to look for
when doing karaoke, and avoiding the crappy ones.

Also just want to give a plug for Effie's in Campbell CA.
Friendly local crowd, lots of diversity of material, and
they have karaoke 6 days a week, Monday's off.
Sundays they go from 4 - 7. The hosts are great
and musically knowledgeable.
Stop by if you're in the area and sing a few.

Ciao Y'all,

Tony in San Jose CA

Tony,

Why not just have your KJ friend re-rip those corrupted songs from their original discs?

Hi,
Not sure if there are any original discs ? Thought the ones they played
were just bad karaoke versions of the original songs ?
But I'll check with KJ to be sure.

I know Effies. I dated the old owners daughter for a spell.

Tony, stop by 7 Bamboo sometime. Would be nice to meet a fellow KS forum member in person.

Cool. Thanks.
Last time I was at the Bamboo I couldn't get the song selection
machine to work so couldn't sing. Bummer, that.
And I paid my dollar too !
But I like the fun vibe there.
