Welcome to the site. A search may have yielded you answers. There are several sites out there. Two or three I don't really care for, as the song quality is unknown or poor IMHO. Here are some of my favorite sites though:

http://karaoke-singles.com/ Site looks crappy, but great selection

http://selectatrack.com/index.aspx EXPENSIVE, but have songs you can't find ANYWHERE else. May have problems when it comes to checkout. I need to call customer service directly to get my order placed.

http://sbikaraoke.com/shop.php Does not keep track of what songs you want like the previous two sites will, but once again has songs that are unique to the site.

http://tricerasoft.com/ Haven't ordered from them yet, but will be in a few days.

And a couple I have looked at but didn't trust the quality of the songs - if someone else wants to chime in and refute this go for it - I just don't want to take the dive without a recommendation:

http://venuevj.com/ Seems expensive, don't know the manufacturer so quality may be questionable, plus the selection seems to be poor.

http://www.karaoke-version.com/ Seems OK, but previous sites mentioned seem to have the majority of what is offered here. May order in the future.

I'm sure I'm missing some. Anybody else want to chime in? Maybe it would be a good idea to make a sticky of all the major sites to get karaoke, both disc and downloads.

Zack

I would NOT use www.buykaraokedownloads.com It is a complete ripoff site. They have no licensing for anything they sell.

Just my opinion.
:|
If someone is selling tracks for .99 or .69 then they are not legally licensed and should be avoided if you respect proper licensing and compensation for the artists and writers of the songs you want to sing. :x

I will get off my soapbox now...

Actually, a very large majority of the songs on buykaraokedownloads.com are either $.99 or $1.49. From my understanding, most of them are Panorama.

Empty Glass as far as I can see from my sources has never been released by ANY karaoke manu. Karaoke manus tend to release the most popular or most requested songs, and not so much the obscure songs (as good as they may be).

Hey there !

I use the site http://www.thekaraokechannel.com . It's pretty sweet; you can try the online version for free ( tons of songs and record yourself) and you can also download the songs to your mp3 or mp4. You should try it ! Let me know what you think ..

So OK here's my dilemma. What would you do?

Some of my regular singers want "It Happens" - Sugarland.

It's the Number 1 country single right now. A big song. From a very popular group for karaoke country singers.

The only place it's available for download anywhere in the world is Buykaraokedownloads. Would you rule them out?

The only disc version is on Quick Hitz and that's not legal either, since no new karaoke versions of Sugarland songs are. Would you buy the disc version? Is that any more legal than buying a download?

And what about the offshore sites that feature stuff not licensed for karaoke here in the States? If you were a US citizen would you use them? Or tell your singers "No I don't have, for example, any Alice In Chains."

Just curious...

I'll keep my course of action to myself but you can probably guess what it will be.

I've had all of those songs since '05! Wish they'd put out more.

SelectATrack has "It Happens" (SBI). Is it considered unethical to use them or is that your question? I know it has been hashed over numerous times but aside from the fact that the KJ won't be the one prosecuted for using an unlicensed track bought in good faith, if you strongly suspect it is unlicensed, as Bill says, SHOULD you buy it?

I was thinking of this as I just saw a local KJ's site where he says he won't be buying as many music updates as he will be putting his money into hiring private investigators and lawyers to go after pirates. Some one commented back that he probably had some tracks in his library with questionable or pulled licensing--even from Sound Choice--so unless he was totally pure he should watch where he treads when it comes to interfering with someone else's livlihood. The perception was almost like we are all pirates, it's just a matter of degree.

I have some Quick HItz in my library. I do like to use SelectATrack for new songs not available here yet. I also just bought a bunch of $5.00 Karaoke Bays. Then I came across an old article about Party Tyme suing them for producing tracks without licensing. So maybe I shouldn't have bought those? IS it time for us to be very careful of whom we support with our buying even if it means not having the new stuff?

Actually I didn't know that Selectatrack had "It Happens" LL. When I checked a few days ago I didn't see it. New? Anyway my thoughts went beyond the specific to general questions in my own mind about using any download site for material that you suspect is unlicensed, at least here in the US. And at least according to the Chartbuster rep who visited us a few weeks ago, Sugarland karaoke is unlicensed and illegal.

I figured you were using it as an example. And I have been having the same thoughts. I am not sure where I stand on the off-shore stuff--should I have not bought the Zoom Eagles disc? What about Sound Choice customs? And I must admit that "It Happens" is waiting right now in the mailbox from SelectATrack (still CDG based).

I think if one was trying to be completely ethical, one wouldn't support a "pirate" CDG company that was trying to pump out cheapo discs by avoiding licensing (and how do we know exactly who they are or aren't?). But the overseas thing is a bit of a foggy area. It's not like the overseas discs are being smuggled across the border.

I was KJ'ing in the UK till recently and I did a lot of research and Zoom, Selectatrack, SBI and Sunfly are all legally licensed. That's not an issue. From their end they are paying royalties and get rights cleared. The issue is the local laws where you are. Though in most places i've found that as long as the disc or track is not pirated the fact you imported it under most international trade agreemnents shouldn't mean you're in any breach. The real issue may well be the license issued locally to allow you to put on a public performance and the wording within that

That's it, free trade. So US law and licensing doesn't allow US manus. to make a Sugarland track. UK laws do, buy the disc / download from the UK. You have broken no laws. Playing the disc, as long as the venue is licensed, pays its ASCAP, SESAC, BMI they have broken no laws (certainly not criminal and not really in danger of a civil suit).

Sound Choice is making more of their discs and tracks in the UK just to get around the archaic US licensing. They can bear the same name, logos etc, but they are manufactured by a UK company under UK laws, legally imported by Sound Choice USA to be sold. No US laws broken there either.

TheKaraokeChannel.com is actually Sound Choice available for downloads as MP4 video or WMV. $1.49 if they have it. Best downloads out there! Tricerasoft via gift packs is cheapest whilst still legally licensed (per Canadian laws). SBI directly is cheaper than Selectatrack, both UK based and ..... legal. Karaoke Singles looks just a bit too flaky to me, buykaraokedownloads may/may not be legal but not user friendly.

Of course, chartbuster will soon be starting their downloads directly which realistically is going to be the wave of the future!

On a side note I'm writing a multi site search engine that will search all download sites at the same time to save the tedium of searching half a dozen sites searching for that track!

Jonn

I have never had any problems with these two sites & have bought SEVERAL songs from them. Granted in cdg format. I have always recieved the discs in less than a week. Downloads I cannot say anything about.
