I have a VocoPro Duet II which we received as a gift. We are trying to set it up to use it but are running in to problems.

When the machine is not hooked up to any externals, the CD runs properly and we get fine sound quality. But as soon as we hook up the video cable to get the lyrics on the TV, boom! The CD won't read and the CD says "error". If we plug the video cable in in the middle of a song, we'll get some lyrics on screen but the cd just stops. We tried running the audio through the receiver and the same things happens. As soon as any externals are attached, the CD player stops working. We also tried hooking it up to two different TVs - no luck.

Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance....

Well

"But as soon as we hook up the video cable to get the lyrics on the TV, boom!" - in this case, you could be getting a ground loop- Which means you're getting a signal coming from the TV back into the amp/player.

Possible solutions. You could add a RF modulator to change your video signal to a channel 3 or 4 and go into your TV that way. Or remove the grounding tab on your plug using an adapter.

Thats happened to me a few times - should work for you

I aggree with Sammy,
Your problem could very well be a ground loop.
In addition to, (or as an alternitive to), removing the grounding tab on on the plug, (or by using an adapter), or by using an RF rectifier, (modulator), you could try pluging the TV into a differant outlet that uses a differant line.
One of your problems, may be that your outlet is miswired.
You can get a receptacle tester for $5-$10 at any hardware store.
Having a miswired outlet won't cause your iron not to work, but it can cause you problems when using audio equipment or during a lightning strike.
I NEVER set up at a gig without first testing the line.
$5-$10 is a small price to pay to prevent the possible loss of my rig.

One other thing that could be happening, if you are connecting through a device that has video out and video in if you connect to the out side of the target device you will get some spooky results.
