I picked up some Nutech CDG's I found on sale for $1.99
Horrible for Karaoke... The sound tracks sound like elevator /doctors office background type music which they are perfect for as in most tracks the melody line is followed by a flute type instrument. I don't think I'll put them in my KARAOKE library but thge next time I need some dinner music at a party or wedding ..THEY ARE PERFECT.

DID I JUST GET THE WRONG DISCS or do they all (NUTECH) sound like this.

Actually that's not all true. SOME of the Nu-Techs are very good. Along with the Nikkodo BMB SAV series (which Nu-Tuch bought out & relabled with their packaging). The P series aren't very good, but do have many useable versions, you just need to go through them. Look at the versions you don't have & don't list the versions you do have. The A series (country) are alot better than their pop series, but alot of discs have bad swipes or don't swipe at all. Nu-Tech was supposedly nailed years ago for copying other manufacturers music & adding their own graphics to them (on the earlier discs).
Funny thing, I have the SAVP26 with I Hate Myself For Loving You (Joan Jett) since it was the only one out at the time, so I had it for a few years. Sound Choice finally released it & I got that version - which kicks A$$ over the SAV version, well people complained I replaced the version they were USED to. I still list the SC version but many that sing it request the crappy version!!! So don't automatically keep the discs out of your book because you don't like them, your singers may not care & replace them as you can.

Great point Lon! When I was helping a friend, before I got into the business myself, I had the same thing with 2 songs, Love Shack, and Mack the Knife. Personally, I hate the Karaoke Fun(Hits) version of Mack- it sounds like a lounge lizzard version. My friend also had the DK version, but most people picked the other one cause it was listed first in the book. One night I ran the show, and someone put the song up. I switched the version- telling them we had a better version- and 1/2 way thru, he asked me to stop and put on the other version cause thais one sucked! Very similar situation with garbage SunFly Love Shack, and DK version.

In the immortal words of Jackie Gleason (I think) "There is no accounting for taste!"

Maybe your right I can add them to the book and see what happens
There really not THAT bad but they do sound like something you would hear from an older LOUNGE type singer ..SO hey who knows some people might prefer them.... But I don't think I'll buy anymore even at $1.99 a disc :P

The Nikkodo Pop set bought by Nu Tech and with the added discs to the original set have some disappointments, especially ELVIS but it has some great tunes as well, especially in the much older music represented. Newer younger KJ's and younger audiences would probably not see as much use of these unless you have some real music aficionado's.

As the audience population shifts I see the STANDARDS changing. I have been into karaoke since the early 90's and a decade means the patrons are changing and their exposure of music is different. Almost every disc line has gems some have more stinkers than others ALL have stinkers I MEAN ALL lines!

Nikkodo was out of print in the mid to late 90's and bought, reprinted and discs added by Nu Tech. The fact that have stood the test of time and sold all these years is a testament to the fact that they do have something to offer in their price point. They are NOT CHARTBUSTERImage
but they are also NOT SOUND IMAGES Image
either! (Bought out and included into the BACKSTAGE library so look out)

I was once told by a wise old man that when Nikkodo Laser Discs first came out they were 100.00us each.

I find SAVP29 to be a good disc, I sing off of it to this day. There are some good versions in the set, But like someone previously mentioned you need to search for them.

The Karaoke Hits pack isn't bad, KJ Tools, or Party Pack... all the same nutech company. I also have most of the SAVA and SAVP series. Many of them like SAVP14 are the only one you can find some songs on nowadays since Pioneer has become so scarce. sAVP14 has many of the Beatles songs!!

And I like the SAVP29 like BJC!!

HOWEVER, as Lonman has so eloquently stated, some people get used to a certain one. Even if you upgrade to a "better" version, many people will still request the other! LOL!

Matt

That is weird isn't it? I have a singer who demands to sing Melissa Etheridge's "Come to my window" from the old RCA 4 song cdg version. I have it on a few discs including SC but she makes faces and says they suck.

Another singer loves the SGB version of "Shadows of the Night" and hates the SC version, Go figure.
