After reading Cavs hype on their arcade jukebox JB-99RG being perfect for nightclubs & bars, I'm worried for my future as a full-time mobile K.J. -
Anyone else feel the same way?? :(

CAVS will do the same to karaoke hosts as jukeboxes did to DJs. Nothing

Cavs has nothing on the Professional kj except fill the time that the KJ isn't there.. if the tightwad bars can even afford it in the firstplace and also if BMI, and ASCAP doesn't come looking for thier fees anyway. The place will be so empty just like karaoke never happened there anyways.

Now ain't that special? :P

If they think it's so darn great let them do it! I'd love to see a few undercutters out of work.

I remember ten years or so ago a bar I went in had a stand-alone karaoke jukebox type machine. It didn't look like it got much use. For one thing it wasnt big enough to give professional quality sound. It would have been like hooking up a microphone to a jukebox. For another, there just wasn't any excitement about it. You would really have to be hardcore to go up and put a dollar in it and start singing.

In certain venues it might work, I hear that a lot of the karaoke in Japan is done in a similar way. But a lot of the allure of karaoke is the live performance aspect. The KJ up there with all their equipment making announcements and encouraging people really does a lot for the entire experience.

what Kobey is describing IS what they do in the orient, however!!

Very high tech... and they love the jukebox type feel of it.

but for putting away a kj... nope, never happen. Not on a scale that's big enough. Any bar that has a jukebox will tell you that it can't hold a candle to a good DJ!

That's why cavs here get's alot of dealers reputible dealers turning it's noses up at it.. as well as some of the media manufacturers. the ones that make the cd's for it do it because they are on media contracts. and i really doubt in my time that cavs will ever over run a pc based karaoke system in quality or total number of units on overall sales .. right now the program "Hoster" is doing sales that is phenominal conbined with the PCKJ, and other PC based karaoke software compared to just all of the cavs units combined.
i think the cavs unit is on it's way out folks.. i have said it once before but the more pc units i see in out-of state shows running karaoke software.. the more i believe it in my heart. but i have been wrong.

I agree with most of what's been said here. It may have a limited usage for some, but won't ever be a big thing. It just can't compete with having a personality. That's part of why a lot of clubs that buy their own systems seem to have a lot of problems. They want to hire someone at 5-7 dollars an hour to run it for them, thinking they'll make a killing. Then they find they have a hard time building it up. Problem is they lack the personality of the more experienced KJ's, an usually have a basic set of discs. Follow that with the idea that if they do develop a good KJ (home grown), they won't last as the KJ then decides they can do better with their own system rather than working for someone else for 5-7 per hr.

Ron...
Between You and I.. in the last.. HMMMM 5-6 years in one peticular club
which shall remain nameless and clueless for that matter...
have they gone through I guess 8-11 KJ's.... with an in-house system
I Guess somethings never change but the beer kegs and the KJ's

Gee, I wonder if maybe an Ownership change and a house cleaning is next? :P It would do Wednesday night karaoke a wonder in this city...
