Image Description: Memories drawn from my childhood. I created and drew 6 of these Sunday Pages, all colored, for a Sunday Page, syndicated feature. When I was a little boy, there weren't any refrigerators, just Ice Boxes and the Ice Man delivered the Ice. On a hot summer day, we would raid the Ice Truck, for a piece of ice and this was before Ice Cream trucks. I was 5 or 6 years old. I am the one speaking the dialogue in the cartoon balloon and my nick name was Skipper. My grandmother Lena Fisher is on the porch and my uncle Chester Fisher delivered the ice. This was before Natural Gas and we had coal furnaces. I remember my grandfather giving my grandmother a coal shovel, with a red ribbon tied to the handle, for Christmas. Ain't that a kick in head. We didn't have much money back in those depression days, so we lived with my grandparents. They have all passed away, but I still have my memories of a wonderful family. This was in about 1935 or 1936. I had a wonderful childhood and this took place in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at 542 Benton Street. I drew this cartoon totally from memory. I copyrighted this "LANGSYNE" feature in 1975, when I was 44; and it was said to be, one of the most beautifully drawn comic strips of the time. This is my original pen and ink drawing. Hope you like it...

Thanks so much DEE, for your kind words. Murdoch News Syndicate told me, "LANGSYNE" was the most beautifully drawn comic strip, they had ever seen; and told me, it was just gorgeous. I kept the letter! However, I couldn't bank their compliments. Warm regards, Phil
